A pedestrian is fighting for his life after getting hit by a car on Saturday morning in the town of Desbiens, in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

DESBIENS — A pedestrian in his mid-50s is fighting for his life after getting hit by a car on Saturday morning in the town of Desbiens, in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

The accident occurred around 7 a.m. on Route 169, also called Hébert St., the Sûreté du Québec said.

The man was struck near the intersection of 12th Ave. while he was on the road.

He was seriously injured and transported to hospital in critical condition, SQ spokesperson Sgt. Louis-Philippe Bibeau said.

He added that the speed limit in the area is 50 km/h and that the area has sidewalks.

The police say they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
